This painting depicts the hinterland landscape of Lexington, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. The peak colors of fall shine through a gently-sloping agricultural valley with distant barn. In the background, the artist's characteristic grasp of the blue, almost cloud-like haziness of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains is prominent.

The edges of this work are painted as part of the composition. Strong impasto throughout adds texture and allows tree branches and leaves to leap off the board. This full edge painting also allows it to be easily hung unframed. Its extra depth attracts the eye and allows it to function as a conversation piece.

Sold on behalf of the artist directly. Presently unvarnished to accentuate the rustic character of the scene, it is suitable for varnishing and can be varnished before shipment (with a delay of 2-3 weeks) or at the purchaser's leisure.
