Information;
Szeiler, was Joseph Szeiler born in Hungary 1924, in 1948 he came to the UK as a coal miner, finding no work he moved to Stoke and started working in the local potteries. In 1951 Joseph started his own pottery business while using a kiln of a local tilery (Tile manufacturer). As the business grew there was a requirement to have his own kiln so in 1955 he bought the Chelsea Works in Burslem.
Szeiler produced tableware and giftware but specialised in animal figurines which were crafted and moulded by Joseph.
Joseph Szeiler died in 1980, the business was continued by Edward Nother using the original moulds under the name of Studio Szeiler. In 1989 he gave Studio Szeiler to Jonathon Plant and Adrian Tinsley where it became Moorland Pottery.
