Vintage Fukusa from Kyotos Ryuanji Temple 龍安寺:

This lovely vintage fukusa is made of red (brownish tone) silk fabric in a traditional weave called Tsuzuri-Ori. It came from the gift shop at Kyotos iconic Ryuangi temple and was packed away and never used. The newspaper stuffer inside shows it was made in the mid 1980s. It has a internal compartment that laces up the sides to allow for expansion. It comes with its original pamplete in both Japanese and English in its original gift box.

Fukusa" is kind of a gereral word for several types of wallet-like items in Japan that are used as wallets, for carrying Kaishi paper or for presentation in various ceremonies.

It is in perfect, never used condition - see photos.

It measures about:

7” or 17.5cm long

3½” or 9cm wide (when closed)

MADE IN JAPAN
