Stainless austenitic chromium-nickel steel 1.4301 is used in the production of flat heating wire. This type of steel has good resistance to acids, can be used up to 600 °C without any problems and is also suitable for very low-temperature applications. In addition, flat resistance wire is easy to process, polish and shape.

The flat heating wire has good mechanical properties. It is very weldable, but in the as-welded condition this wire is not resistant to intergranular corrosion. Flat resistance wire is also unsuitable for use in seawater and swimming pools.
