A Panama Canal Zone First Day of Issue. August 16, 1948.

Commemorates the Administration of Governor Charles Edward Magoon, the Second Governor of the Canal Zone, 1905 to 1906.

He is unique in Isthmian history for he was also Ambassador to Panama during the same period. The only person to ever hold both positions!

He was a confidant of President Theodore Roosevelt and Secretary of War William Howard Taft. Magoon was so successful in Panama that he was appointed Governor of Cuba, 1906-1909.

This brown color one and a half cent Canal Zone stamp bears a profile of Gov. Magoon. It was purchased and mailed on August 16, 1948. Postmarked and cancelled at the Ancon, Canal Zone Post Office with  a FIRST DAY OF ISSUE postmark.

From the private collection of a Palm Beach authority on Gov. Magoon who personally purchased it at the post office. He has been the only owner. FDC is 72 years old and in fine condition.

A very impressive collector’s item to be cherished for years.
