About JACK MCKEON: John Aloysius McKeon, nicknamed "Trader Jack," is an American former Major League Baseball manager and front-office executive. In 2003, at age 72, he won a World Series as manager of the Florida Marlins. Two full seasons removed from his previous managing job, McKeon had begun the 2003 season in retirement, but on May 11, he was induced to return to uniform to replace Jeff Torborg as the Marlins' pilot. The team was 16–22 and in next-to-last place in the National League East Division. Described upon his hiring by Marlins' general manager Larry Beinfest as a "resurrection specialist," McKeon led the Marlins to a 75–49 win-loss record, a wild card berth, victories over the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs in the National League divisional and championship series playoffs, and then a six-game World Series triumph over the New York Yankees.

About Jeff Conine: Jeffrey Guy Conine is a former Major League Baseball player who played 17 seasons with six teams primarily as an outfielder. An inaugural member of the Florida Marlins who was with the franchise for both of its World Series titles, he earned the title Mr. Marlin for his significant history with the club, and his ties to South Florida.

The 2003 World Series was the 99th edition of Major League Baseball's championship series. The National League champion Florida Marlins defeated the heavily favored American League champion New York Yankees four games to two. This is the most recent Series in which the losing team outscored the winning team. The Yankees lost, despite outscoring the Marlins 21–17 in the Series. This was the Marlins' second World Series championship win and their first since 1997.
