Danger Danger’s sophomore release, “Screw It”, found the band taking everything that worked about their debut record and making it even better. Easily the strongest album the band has put out to date through both the Poley and Paul Laine years. That isn’t to say the other albums are not strong because I thoroughly enjoy the band’s other records as well and still keep all of them in constant rotation in the player.

Released the same year as Skid Row’s “Slave To The Grind”, both bands had singles out at the same time called “Monkey Business”. I recently had the privilege of seeing D2 live and Bruno told the crowd about how originally this record was supposed to be named “Monkey Business” but after the two bands had singles out at the same time by the same name then they said “fuck it” and that is how the title “Screw It” came about.

Everyone sounds great here. From Poley’s never less than stellar vocals to West’s drums to Bruno’s bass and backing vocals to the blazing guitars of Timmons. Production value is very high here and we are treated to a fantastic onslaught of hair metal at it’s very best. Just take a listen to a song like “Don’t Blame It On Love”, my all-time favorite D2 song, and tell me it doesn’t kick ass. This album is full of that, loud, sleazy, catchy as hell, good time rock n’ roll that I cannot recommend highly enough.

While this did not release in the 80’s it is still part of the genre that came in the best decade of music. Back when bands were actually bands and wrote their own music, actually played instruments and just plain rocked the hell out. This is music that will never go out of style and will always be the soundtrack to a multitude of lives. Music that defined a generation. A bit of sleaze, a lot of blazing guitars, soaring vocals and a whole lot of attitude. This is rock n’ roll!
