 DESCRIPTION:
For sale is this absolutely terrific late 19th century American antique Victorian black lacquered and enamel painted wooden flower box. It has sloped sidewalls and all four of the window box's panels are decorated with flower motifs. Water lilies and lotus flowers populate one long sidewall and roses or small chrysanthemums decorate the other side. The interior of the window box is painted with a burnt sienna enamel paint. The sidewall graphic iconography is completely hand painted and is nearly unblemished by deep abrasions, scuffs, paint loss or staining. This hand painted wooden flower box, now nearly 120-140 years old, has clearly escaped the ravages of time. The recessed bottom panel of the box is unpainted and reveals the box was constructed out of pine. The sidewalls are sloped and splayed outward, giving it a graceful and visually pleasing form. One long side panel features a vignette of water lilies, while the other sidewall features roses or small chrysanthemums. In wonderful overall condition. Nice.
