This beautifully hand crafted real slate cave is a wonderful natural addition to any aquarium or vivarium. The slate has been filed, washed, sterilised and sturdily constructed using only aquatic safe materials. This ornament will not fade as do many resin based painted products. 

Every ornament we make is unique, no two can ever be exactly the same. The item you receive will be similar to the example pictures shown.

This is a large size with no back wall, suitable for use as a cave for fish or a basking rock and hide for reptiles. Slate makes an ideal basking area as it catches and retains the warmth from a heat lamp very well. We have also had reports that our slate is perfect for lizards such as bearded dragons to trim their nails on. 

Please note that some some reptiles may need a prop such as a branch or smaller cave to climb on to the roof. 

The external dimensions are approximately 28cm length x 17cm width x 11cm height. 

The internal dimensions are approximately 23cm length x 15cm width x 10cm height. 
 

Why Choose Slate?

To achieve a natural looking habitat slate is an ideal material to use.  The lovely texture, grain and shapes are eye catching, however the subtle shades of grey are neutral so will not clash with other colours.   Many other types of rocks and wood can appear ‘messy’ when put together.  Natural slate not only looks great but highlights and enhances the colours of the animals and plants it is placed with.

DELIVERY

Free delivery covers 95% of mainland UK, however there are a few remote regions where the courier will not deliver or the delivery cost is higher (mainly parts of Scotland).  For this reason we reserve the right to change our delivery charge after purchase.  You may cancel the order if this is the case.  If you live in an area where you are aware delivery charges may be higher please contact us before purchasing for a quote. 

Quality Checklist:

No machine cut edges on display.  These appear much lighter in colour and look most unnatural.

Large pieces of slate used.  Slate looks best when you can see the grain and textures.  Tiny pieces stuck together lose the stones’ charm.

No silicone or glue on display.  We don’t use these substances as others do so you won’t see messy joins.  We rely on our skilled stone work along with traditional and innovative new techniques to fit slate naturally together.

Clean slate.  We hand pick top quality stone with no impurities such as iron pyrite.
