Lisa Dewey’s Lola CUKI album was released by Kitchen Whore Records in 1997. Dewey is best known for her unique musical style, which is dreamy, multilayered, and atmospheric. Her personal lyrics cover the familiar narratives of love fading away, but also allow for hope. She also is an author, runs a record label, has been involved with films, and been an active supporter of many LGBTQ causes. Lola CUKI means Lola's Sweet Shop in Hungarian. The cover photo was taken in Hungary in 1997. The album featured Stephanie Steele on drums, Chris Fifield on lead guitar, sounds, and lap steel, Michaela Guiterrez on cello, and Rich Thomas on editing, mixing and production. She has subsequently released another two albums including the latest, Busk from 2004, was co-released by Simon Raymonde’s Bella Union and featured the former Cocteau Twins’ man on bass, guitar and piano.
