Antique metal AUTO VACUUM ICE CREAM FREEZER made by Auto Vacuum Freezer Co. in New York. Patented 1912, so dates to about then. It’s the only patent date shown. Later versions of this came out in the 1920s and beyond, but this was the first one!! As advertised, “It freezes ice cream smooth, firm and velvety in 45 minutes without tiresome turning, cranking or other manipulation.” Apparently, you put the ice cream ingredients in the top opening chamber, and then pack ice and salt in the hollow wall around the chamber through the bottom opening. Ingredients are then mixed and frozen while driving on typical bumpy roads of the day and... 45 minutes later... ice cream!! Good overall condition with some surface rust as shown in the pics. Has a great shabby chic rustic patina. Original front label intact and very good. Sits flush with no wobble. A few very small dents to side which are barely noticeable. Top lid intact. Missing bottom lid as shown. Measures about 11 5/8” high and 8 7/8” diameter. See pics for more details.
