The cover of this Book-of-Shadows is hand-embossed with an image of the pagan Mother Goddess Gaia-Luna. Because of her association with the rhythms of the lunar cycle the Goddess is shown with the crescent moon above her head.

I think of this journal as a book-of-shadows, a book of spells or a 'grimoire' in the Pagan Wicca tradition. The cover is handmade from vintage buffalo hide and is coloured a dark brown, with a natural dye that is derived from tree bark. It contains 100 pages/200 usable sides of plain, unlined 150gsm cartridge art paper.

The cover measures 10x7 inches (25x17.5cm), which means it is substantially larger than A5 but smaller than A4. This is a tough and durable book that would make an excellent Wicca Book of Shadows. It will also serve as a travelling journal, sketchbook or personal diary. The folios of paper are stitched into the leather cover with a traditional 'Italian' stitch - a style of binding that guarantees a long life. The paper is suitable for drawing, sketching or writing in many media, including gel, Biro, pencil, water colour and fountain pen.

I love working with leather, but for ethical reasons I only use vintage leather for my books- ie leather from working animals that have come to the end of their lives.
