Rolex DeepSea Sea-Dweller 116660 black dial

An exclusive technical innovation, the Ringlock System allows the Rolex Deepsea’s case to withstand

water pressure equivalent to a weight of some three tonnes on the crystal.

904L Stainless Steel

Features

Rolex uses 904L stainless steel for its steel watch cases. 904L is mainly used in the high technology,

aerospace and chemical industries, where maximum resistance to corrosion is essential.

A superalloy, 904L is extremely resistant and highly polishable.

It maintains its beauty even in the harshest environments.

904L steel also provides a perfect complement to the precious metals used by Rolex.
Manufactured by Rolex from an extremely hard ceramic material since 2005,

the exclusive Cerachrom bezel insert and monobloc bezel have excellent anti-corrosion properties

and keep their vibrant colours over time.

They are virtually scratchproof, and are unaffected by exposure to sunlight as well as to chlorinated or sea water.

To inscribe the numerals and graduations on such a hard material,

Rolex developed a unique process which culminates in their being coated with a thin layer of yellow gold or platinum.

It takes 40 hours to produce each Cerachrom bezel.
At Rolex, no measure is too extreme in the pursuit of beauty and function.

The Triplock winding crown is a patented triple waterproofness system designed especially for divers’ watches.

Developed by Rolex, it resists water pressure to depths of 3,900 metres (12,800 feet) on the Rolex Deepsea.

First introduced in 1970, the Triplock system consists of 10 different elements crafted from the most reliable materials.

The winding crown screws down against the Oyster case as tightly and hermetically as a submarine’s hatch.

The watch case is rigorously tested to ensure it meets pressure-resistance requirements.

The three-step process - a vacuum test, a compression test and a condensation test - will reveal the presence

of even the smallest amount of moisture inside the case.

Perpetual, mechanical, self-winding

This model is equipped with calibre 3135, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed

and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3135 is a certified Swiss chronometer,

a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer

Testing Institute (COSC) tests. It is fitted with a Parachrom hairspring,

offering greater resistance to shocks and to temperature variations.

Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.
Centre hour, minute and seconds hands. Instantaneous date with rapid setting. Stop-seconds for precise time setting

In a mechanical watch, the oscillator is the guardian of time. Conventional oscillator hairsprings are made

of ferromagnetic alloys, leaving them vulnerable to magnetic fields, temperature variations and shocks that interfere

with their precision. After years of research, Rolex created the blue Parachrom hairspring, which is finer than a human hair.

Crafted from a highly stable paramagnetic alloy that includes niobium and zirconium, it is insensitive to magnetic fields

and up to 10 times more resistant to shocks. Historically, the unique blue colour of the hairspring has been a sign of

prestige reserved for only the most accurate timepieces

Invented by Rolex in 1931, this ingenious mechanism harnesses the energy of natural wrist movements to provide

a reliable and clean source of power for the watch movement. It consists of a half-moon shaped oscillating weight,

which pivots freely in both directions on its axle. As it rotates, the rotor continuously winds the Perpetual movement’s mainspring,

ensuring a constant and stable source of energy. This enhances the watch’s precision and eliminates the need to wind it regularly.

The Perpetual rotor mechanism features two distinctive red reversing wheels, which ensure efficient winding of the

movement regardless of the direction in which the oscillating weight rotates.

The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology. First introduced in the

late 1930s, this particularly robust and comfortable metal bracelet with its broad, flat three-piece links remains the

most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.

The Fliplock extension link enables the bracelet to be adjusted by an additional 26 mm. This remarkable fold-out link

allows for a secure and comfortable fit over the most protective diving suits.

The dial is the visual interface between the wearer and the watch’s mechanical movement. It must accommodate

the indications provided by the hands and any apertures in a very small space, and respect strict aesthetic and

legibility requirements. Dial creation is nothing less than a true métier d’art, or rather the sum of a number of skills,

calling for both great artistic expertise and use of state-of-the-art technology. Rolex is one of the rare watchmaking

companies that master in-house all the aspects of dial creation, from design to production.

The innovative Chromalight display on the dial pushes back the boundaries of visibility in dark environments.

Its distinctive blue glow lasts up to eight hours with a uniform luminosity, practically twice as long as that of standard

luminescent materials
