Though now politically incorrect, this remains a wonderful pair of blackamoor* vases.

The native man and woman have a shiny black glaze with details in metallic gold and red.

Their faces are beautifully sculpted and serene, their posture is straight and proud.

Each vase stands 5.75" tall, the base measures 4.5" by 2.25".

Both are in really good condition with not much visible wear when standing, the man has a very shallow chip on the underside, it can only be seen when turned over, looking from the side it is below the glaze line. White spots are glare off the shiny finish.

A great example of blackamoor vases, depicted tastefully with graceful and exotic form.

Blackamoors, or black Moors, were originally black people from North Africa who worked as servants and slaves in wealthy European households. The negative connotation of the term comes from its historical association with servitude

and contempt for dark races.
