1900 OLYMPIC GAMES
THE EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE 1900 IN PARIS
Designed by F. Vernon, the plaque is made of silvered-bronze and measures 59 mm tall by 41 mm wide by 3 mm thick, weighing 74 grams. It has "EDUCATION PHYSIQUE" and "OFFERT PAR LE MINISTRE" ("Offered by the Minsiter") on the obverse. The reverse is a victorious athlete standing triumphantly on top of a blank podium. The French Mint cornucopia symbol along with "BRONZE" is stamped on the lower side edge. It presents in VF condition some tarnishing and wear.
The Exposition Universelle of 1900 was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from 14 April to 12 November 1900, to celebrate the achievements of the past century and to accelerate development into the next. The style that was universally present in the Exposition was Art Nouveau. The fair, visited by nearly 50 million, displayed many machines, inventions, and architecture that are now nearly universally known, including the Grande Roue de Paris Ferris wheel, Russian nesting dolls, diesel engines, talking films, escalators, and the telegraphone (the first magnetic audio recorder).

A sideshow at the Exposition was the Second Olympic Games, which were spread over five months. So unnoted were these games that many athletes died unaware that they had been Olympians. The games also marked the first participation by female athletes and, in such sports as tennis, football (soccer), polo, rowing, shooting and tug of war, teams were multinational.
