Here is an original very 1st ATLANTA POP FESTIVAL ticket stub from July 4th, 1969

This is a super rare find.. a genuine vintage concert stub that came from one of the earliest and most successful rock music festivals.  Although this event was about 1/3 the size, it was held 6 weeks before Woodstock.  It turned out 1969 would be the peak year for pop festivals, and the success of this one was the reason behind realizing the 1970 Atlanta Pop festival the following year.  That one would be even more successful and almost on par with Woodstock with an attendance reaching as high as 300,000+.

This is why the Atlanta Pop Festival has become one of the most coveted concert festival events and probably stands only 2nd to Woodstock in popularity.  Atlanta had the similar cool vibes and Love/Peace colorful crowd from that special era.  All the news articles about the Atlanta event were very favorable.  The young hip crowd was very orderly and there to have a good time.  They even showed a very peaceful tolerance as they braved the harsh sun conditions with limited facilities over that weekend.  It also turned out to be the largest audience that Led Zeppelin would ever play in front of, until only possibly at Knebworth which wasn't until a full decade later.

The stub is the one seen in the photos.  It is in awesome condition with basically no wear.

A little more background info:

The 1969 Atlanta International Pop Festival was really a rock festival that was held at the Atlanta International Raceway in Hampton, just outside of Atlanta, Georgia over a month before Woodstock.  This was a big deal at the time, as the South was not at all considered by the artists, labels and promoters of the rock world.  The south was pretty much viewed as full of rednecks!  Yet some local small businessmen with a love of music knew of the one or two earlier festivals in California and had their own ideas and managed to pull it off in record time.  Crowd estimates ranged as high as 150,000 on hot days with temperatures reaching close to 100 degrees.  Local fire departments did their part to help by using their fire hoses to spray all cool off the crowd.  It turned out to be a very peaceful, energetic and loud festival without any problems at all.  Although, there was an inconvenience during the day as the clouds were minimal and the heat was a bit intense and the concession stands were inadequate.  So the fans had to stand in long lines for their drinks and food.

Over twenty musical acts performed over the 2 days are these are the most popular and likely most memorable:

Spirit
Al Cooper
Blood, Sweat & Tears
Canned Heat
Chicago Transit Authority
Joe Cocker
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Grand Funk Railroad
Tommy James & The Shondells
The Staple Singers
Johnny Winter
Janis Joplin
Led Zeppelin

This festival was organized by a group of friends and acquaintances that had a love of music and the peaceful counter culture of the time.  They included Chris Cowing, Tom Kurrus, Robin Conant and eventually Alex Cooley.  All of the planning occurred in a rather short amount of time, just maybe 4-5 months.  Cooley turned out to be a late add on, but he was a natural fit as he owned a night club with live bands and was already involved in the music scene.  He also had a strong business acumen, so he went on to become the primary force behind the Texas International Pop Festival a few weeks later, and most importantly, he went on to spear head the much larger and more successful 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival the following summer.  He also put together the Mar Y Sol Pop Festival in Puerto Rico April 1972.
