Dimitri Hadzi

1921 New York - 2006 New York

was an American abstract sculptor who lived and worked in Cambridge, Massachusetts.He was born to Greek-American immigrant parents in New York City on March 21, 1921. Hadzi served in the South Pacific, in World War II

He studied at Cooper Union. He was a 1957 Guggenheim Fellow He showed at the 1962 Venice biennale. He won a 1974 Rome Prize. Hadzi taught studio arts at Harvard University, from 1975 to 1989. In 1990 he was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member and became a full Academician in 1994.

A provision of the 2014 Financial Appropriations Act barred the General Services Administration from replacing it for fear that it could be used to shield an attacker.
