This is the flower design Tibetan rug making is an ancient, traditional craft. Tibetan rugs are traditionally made
from Tibetan highland sheep's wool, called changpel. Tibetans use rugs for many
purposes ranging from flooring to wall hanging to horse saddles, though the most
common use is as a seating carpet. You can also use it for many ways like in the sitting room, bed room etc.

The process of making Tibetan rugs is unique in the sense that the knotting method
is different from that used in other rug-making traditions worldwide. With the intro-
duction of modern technology some aspects of the rug-making processes have been
taken over by machine in many workshops, in particular yarn spinning and trimming
of the pile after weaving. This is primarily because of cost, disappearance of know-
ledge etc. Nevertheless, the finest carpets are those still made in the traditional
way, by hand.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              It's not hard to see why a hand knotted rug costs more than a machine made or hand tufted rug, isn't it? Hand knotted  this same size took 18 days to ready weaving 8 hours a day but hand tufted take 16 hours to make one rug same size . The weaving labor alone is quite impressive. Then take into account the skills of the wool dyer and the rug designer, even the wool itself, especially if it is from the underbelly of the sheep (the finest quality wool). All told, when you purchase a hand knotted rug you are buying a work of hand made art - many times a unique one-of-a-kind piece of art. Worth every penny!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Please  make sure that rug is actually hand-knotted and not hand-tufted. Hand-tufted knots are made by machine so their lines are straight and standard and easy to detect. Hand-tufted rugs are not knotted but instead stitched. They will not last as long as a hand-knotted carpet, and they do not have the lasting value of a hand-knotted carpet. Hand-knotted rugs are done by hand so their rows of knots will vary in size as will the straightness of their lines.
