Saddlemaker at work
in a harness shop
in Montana
early 20th Century

This sharp image shows two men reading newspapers while a saddlemaker is busily working by window light. They are inside a leather shop with a Round Oak brand heating stove and a fancy oil lamp. The man in the center is reading the Police Gazette. We can't find a calendar in the photo, but the posters are readable in the larger-size prints (see "Other sizes available" below). The clock reads 10:20. Please see our other photos of the western U.S. as well. Check out all our items!

You will receive an 11-inch by 16-inch (11x16) print that will ship the next business day after you pay for this item. 11x16 frames are available in some stores. Or, to fit a standard 11x14 frame, consider trimming off two inches on the left side to retain all of the saddlemaker's shop on the right. Or, you may prefer to cut one inch from the left and right. We may have the 11x14 size listed separately at a lower price. Other sizes are available, sold separately. (See "Other sizes available" below.)

This improved print was made for you new, in a photo lab. We took great care to preserve the sharpness and old look while removing scratches, spots, and other damage that would make the image less viewable. We repaired imperfections and improved tonal values.

Tone:  This print is sepia tone as shown. Sepia is the color of old black and white prints today, caused by acid in the old paper. Many people prefer the warm sepia tones over cold black and white. Our sepia-tone prints are on acid-free paper, but look old. Black and white is also available, listed separately. Click "Ask a question" or "Contact seller" to ask how to purchase black and white.

Finish:  This print has a luster finish that reduces glare. Glossy is available, listed separately. Click "Ask a question" to ask how to purchase glossy finish.

Border:  This print has a minimum border. This means that there may be some white edges (less than 1/4 inch wide) outside the image so that you can display the maximum amount of the image in a typical device that hides the edges of the print.

Quality:  We select the highest-quality images we can find and carefully restore and improve them. Old photos do not meet today’s high standards due to the limitations of the materials and methods available in those days, and due to aging and damage. But we improve them as much as we can while preserving an old look. Then we process them using modern archival methods so they can be affordable and last for many years.
