DESCRIPTION:
This wonderful early 20th century American Arts and Crafts antique decorated ceramic tile has great, naturally oxidized surfaces, from either being hung outside over the years or from being exposed to moisture, possibly stored in a moist, damp basement or garage. It however, has no fractures, hairline cracks, ceramic loss or other condition issues. It only has natural discoloration which somehow enhances the Arts and Crafts antique tile. It's ceramic surfaces are slightly to moderately pitted, yet all four corners and the raised, bas-relief center medallion are all without loss or damage. At first, the variegated colors and presence of iron oxide, gives the impression the ceramic tile was actually made of iron but it's in fact, made of kiln-fired ceramic clay. The square tile has a thick, 1 1/2" overall depth and measures 8" x 8". The round, raised center medallion features a bas-relief, four leaf floral motif with double lined edge. The tile is complete and has a hanging wire attached to its verso. It has matte, dry surfaces and hasn't been lacquered or altered. Untouched and undisturbed. Wonderful.

CONDITION:
Fair to Good overall antique condition. The tile was covered in dust, silt and debris and was gently dusted with a soft red sable artist's brush, rinsed with tepid, clean water and patted dry with a soft cotton cloth to reveal its surfaces. It remains largely as it was found, but without the dirt obscuring viewing its wonderful surfaces.
