This Barbados Silver Eagle is perfect for collectors of bird themed coins, as well as those who love coins with unique design elements. The high relief piece is part of the Shapes of America Series, which celebrates some of the most famous North American animals. Part of a mintage of just 7,500 pieces, this coin was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
On the obverse, the Barbados coat of arms is set on the left against a backdrop of wavy lines. To the right is the eagle cutout. At the top of this face are inscriptions of the name of the coin's issuing country, "BARBADOS," and its date, "2020." The coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," is noted at the bottom.
The reverse features a two eagle design. One of the eagles is shown in close up, offering extraordinary detail in the bird's head and neck. To the left is a cutout of an eagle soaring with its wings spread wide. The two birds are set against a backdrop of a river snaking through a deep canyon. Near the top is a circle, which is on all of the animal coins in this set. Within it is a map of North America made from geometric shapes. "EAGLE" is inscribed at the top of this face, while the coin's weight and purity, "1 OZ AG .999," are included at the bottom.
This coin received Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) highest grade, Proof-like 69. The Proof-like designation indicates that, while a business strike, this coin has a brilliant and reflective finish that makes it similar to a proof. To earn a 69 grade, a coin must appear perfect under 5x magnification.
