I designed this journal as a Book of Shadows or Grimoire for Pagan/Wicca practitioners. The cover is hand-tooled with the figure of BAPHOMET, the satanic form which the Knights Templars were reputed to have worshipped, and which Aleister Crowley later elaborated .

This version of Baphomet is based on the original 19th C drawing by Eliphas Lévi. It shows Baphomet in goat form, with both male and female qualities, to signify the union of opposites.

The Latin words SOLVE (separate) and COAGULA (unite) are inscribed on the banner at the bottom of the cover.

The cover measures 9x6 inches (22.5x15cm), which means it is about the same size as A5. It is an ideal size and shape for use as a Book of Shadows or Grimoire, and will also serve as a personal diary or travelling journal.

The journal contains 100 pages/200 usable sides of 150gsm unlined cartridge paper. The folios of paper are stitched into the leather cover with a traditional 'Italian' stitch - a style of binding that guarantees a long life. The paper is suitable for drawing, sketching or writing - it can be used with many media, including water colour and fountain pen.

The cover is coloured with a natural Mahogany Brown dye that is derived from tree bark.

I love working with leather, but for ethical reasons I only use vintage leather for my books- ie leather from working animals that have come to the end of their lives.
