Goldstone is a type of glittering man-made gemstone made in a low-oxygen reducing atmosphere. The finished product can take a smooth polish and be carved into beads for jewellery making. Goldstone is created using copper and copper salts with a reducing flame. The addition of cobalt or manganese results in the deep, shimmering Blue Goldstone. Even though Goldstone is man-made, it has been around since the European Renaissance and is said to be one of the most popular gemstones in the world. It was invented by the Miotti family in Venice during the 17th century.
