Some highlights include: 

Evolution theory co-founder (1859), the 80 year old Alfred Russel Wallace opens the issue with an 8 page essay on "Man's Place in the Universe: A Reply to Criticisms." This is the first American appearance of the essay. It had just appeared in the London Fortnightly Review. Wallace published it in book form in 1904. 

French novelist Jean Aicard's serial novel, here translated for the Living Age, Tata (Part V). 

Hilaire Belloc's essay "Poets of the French [16th Century] Renaissance: Joachim Du Bellay."  

The young Edward Hutton's essay on the influential English author and teacher Walter Pater. Hutton, like Pater, specialized in the art, culture, and landscapes of Italy. 7 pages.
