A shorter, b&w version of THE SACRED & THE PROFANE originated in the pages of STAR+REACH MAGAZINE in 1977 and 1978, and then was re-created & expanded in full color in the pages of EPIC MAGAZINE from October 1983 through October 1984; and, finally in 1987, the entire series (plus additional material) was collected together as a graphic novel by Eclipse Books.  Like all good science fiction, the plot is deeply philosophical -- an intelligent life form is detected across the universe in years to come, and the Vatican commissions a huge space vessel to cross the void, in order to proselytize the non-Christian beings.  What could possibly go wrong?
