 DESCRIPTION:
Offered is this very handsome, plate signed lithograph print titled 'Quiet Street,' by the celebrated, famous French painter and printmaker Bernard Buffet (France, 1928-1999.) In his heyday, Bernard Buffet was even for a time slightly more popular than another well-known artist and even somewhat threw shade on the other notorious French (by way of Spain) artistic personality and cultural celebrity of his day, that being none other than Pablo Picasso. Buffet had become so popular and financially successful as an artist, that even the great Pablo Picasso, would speak derisively of Buffet's works and dismiss them outright, not quite able to hide his jealously of Buffet's mercurial fame and rising star in the international art world. Found in the same mid-20th century home were this print and another Modernist lithograph print, curiously by Pablo Picasso and framed in the same black enamel painted wooden frames, with thin gold gilt liners and enveloped in a bright red mat surround. The lithograph print is signed 'Bernard Buffet, (19)52.' The print's free of stains, tears, foxing, tanning, creases or other damage. The red matting used is period and the print is well-preserved. Very nice. Now quite scarce.
