Here is an eye-catching and varied group of four small envelopes picturing the towering French leader Charles de Gaulle and four stamps from around the world. They date from 1966 to the late 1980s. The covers are from Uruguay, Brazil, the Congo Republic and France and the stamps are from Chad, Gabon, the Malagasy Republic and Upper Volta. The global spread of these items speaks volumes about the impact of the hugely important if controversial French leader.  Some of the covers have minor wear from long-distance international postal handling. The Brazzaville envelope has some wrinkles at the right.

Two of the envelopes are unaddressed event or commemorative covers. The Congo one marks the 20th anniversary of the important Brazzaville Conference and has a long text in French about its importance and context. The very fine de Gaulle stamp with torch and outline of Africa is tied by a fine special postmark with a portrait of de Gaulle on an outline of Africa.

The 1989 Uruguay cover has two stamps marking de Gaulle's visit there that year. They are tied by a Philex France illustrated postmark.

The Brazilian cover bears a pair of stamps marking de Gaulle's visit there in 1964 and is addressed to Germany. The last cover bears a copy of the fine French stamp marking the 1963-88 era of cooperation between France and Germany and also pictures Konrad Adenauer. It is addressed to Scotland.

The four large, nicely done used stamps have varied good images of the French leader and World War II general and hero.

An interesting and attractive group honouring de Gaulle.

The postage costs on this item are higher than I would like and, after leaving them unchanged for several years, I have raised them slightly in line with the 2024 postage rates. British buyers please note: This item will cost $2 to post.

As I have some fixed-price items anyone who purchases one of my lots might want to look at them before paying. Additional postage is free for subsequent purchases unless they are too big for my normal very low basic rates. If you are buying more than one item please wait for me to send an invoice so I can combine postage.

When payment for lots won is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item cannot go out until the following Monday.
