If the answer is yes you most probably need a non return valve.

The non return valve which is found on the top of the Macerator pump stops waste water flowing back in to the Macerator pump and setting it off.

If your waste outlet pipe runs vertical up the wall then out to the soil stack and your Saniflo or any other macerator pump is activating intermittently then try replacing the non return valve.

If you live in a hard water area and have never Descaled your Saniflo then the chances are your non return valve has thick limescale on the rubber and is preventing it from closing and sealing properly.

Activation times can vary, if activates quickly chances are the rubber valve is completely missing, if it takes a while then you have a slow leaky valve.

Sometimes if the rubber doesn’t have limescale damage and is not sealing could be the rubber has been damaged either by a foreign object or the rubber has been damaged by chemicals and the rubber valve has enlarged or is distorted.

If you have to change the valve make sure you use Descaler afterwards to clean out the machine at regular intervals 2-3 times per year.

Other reasons for intermittent starting are faulty Membranes or faulty microswitches .
