Ffestiniog 2 Ton Slate wagon Kit x 3 with wheels in 3D Resin for 4mm scale / 9mm track – OO9

£13.99 per set of 3 + 1st Class postage per order

3D printed resin kit for Ffestiniog style 2 Ton Slate Wagons. These were updated June 2022 to V8 of this kit. Please check all the photos, and read the text below to know what you are receiving.

The main differences with the updated version are:
1) Much crisper top-side - you can now see the bracket/rivet detail where the side irons fix to the wagon base.
2) Thinner, more detailed/delicate iron cage work
3) Wheel base corrected - 1mm longer
4) Sole-bars shorter, and axle boxes taller
5) Braked type has band brakes detail, un-braked have the plain axle-boxes

Parts, supplied UNPAINTED:
3 - Wagon Body/Chassis (** 1 with brake gear/lever point) with NEM style socket
3 - Coupling / brake lever - with spares – normally attached inside wagon
3 - Slate loads (original loads available on request)
3 - pairs of Kato solid metal wheels/axles (14.2mm), normally pre-fitted to the chassis

Alternatively these are available as sets of 6 Slate Wagons

Also available is the 3 Ton Slate Wagons - Ffestiniog

Photos show all the parts supplied, along with some painted versions (note that these were prototypes, the un-braked ones have since been updated removing the brake bands and fitting the smaller axle-boxes – the unpainted ones show the correct features). Painted wagons in the photos have been given a quick spray with grey car primer, then a black/brown wash, and the wheels painted dark brown, which gives quick and effective results!

WHEELS: If removing/replacing wheel-sets, do this very carefully, using pliers to hold the axles, and only apply gentle pressure to the axle boxes. The 3D resin is not as flexible or forgiving as injection moulded plastic.

The parts are printed in high-resolution resin, we are currently printing in white, although this doesn’t photograph well, it paints very well (colour you receive may vary). All prints have been cleaned and cured thoroughly, but as with all 3D prints, there may be small blemishes to tidy up.

COUPLINGS + BRAKE LEVER: Couplings + brake lever are printed inside the wagon, and will normally still be attached. Spare brake levers are inside the un-braked wagons. Light sideways pressure with a finger or small screwdriver will snap them off, then clean up the sprues. The chassis have an NEM style slot, which also takes PECO couplings, so you can build the rake with close couplings, then add PECO ones (not included) at the end if required. On the braked type, there is a small hole to locate one end of the brake lever, the top end should clip in between 2 of the top rails (see photos).

Due to tolerances/variations in the printing process, the couplings may be slightly loose, or rather tight. Loose will just require some glue or packing, if tight, ensure all the sprues/bumps are fully removed (a fingernail usually does the trick), you can also lubricate with an HB pencil (as the resin is naturally rough), but some might require gentle filing/sanding to ensure a good fit. Use super glue or PVA - solvent glues do not work on 3D resins.

The NEM style pockets and couplings are a little delicate, so take care, they will not stand up to repeated insertion and removal. Each wagon comes with 2 OO9 hooks and 2 hooks with fixed loops, so there are double the number required, in case of breakage, also now includes ‘prototypical bumpers’ with pins above that can take 3/5 link chains (not included).

WEIGHTING: The metal wheel-sets give the wagons a reasonable amount of weight. You can of course add weight inside the load, but better to add a small lead strip under the chassis, between the axles, to give a low centre of gravity.

CAREFUL: All 3D models can be a little delicate, so don't drop them on the floor ! Also, we recommend any work be done with a file/sandpaper rather than trying to cut, as this is gentler. We cannot be held responsible for breakage during handling, but if they are damaged in the post, then please provide photographic evidence of packaging etc. Any breakage can normally be fixed with a spot of super-glue or PVA.

STOCK: We hold a small stock, so will normally dispatch next working day (or even same day if early enough), but at times there may be a delay if we have to make parts to order. We will advise you when the order is received of any delay, otherwise we aim to dispatch with 2 working days.

Variant B/C/Scrap Grade: I have a large collection of various failed prints, of all types, that are suitable for use on a scrap-line or abandoned vehicles, contact me for details.

Lastly, I am always interested in feedback (real, not the eBay type !), both on this model, and suggestions for what to work on next.
