New to the Evolution Aqua range.

K+Media is designed and manufactured in the UK by Evolution Aqua. This advanced media, with its innovative design, and class leading surface area provides enhanced biological and mechanical filtration.

As Evolution Aqua extrude the K+Media, Minerals and Enzymes are added to the raw material.  The result of this process, unique to Evolution Aqua, is a filtration media that not only outperforms most of its competitors due to its large protected surface area, but also answers the problem of how to speed up the time taken to mature your filter.

After many years of research, Evolution Aqua have now developed a new media that not only gives class leading surface area, but also overcomes the problem of long maturation times.

Other Details:

During the extrusion process, Evolution Aqua add a range of minerals, along with magnesium, calcium, enzymes and salt to the raw material that is used to manufacture K+Media.  The result means that K+Media will mature much faster than many other types of media.

– The addition of these minerals creates a rough surface on the media. This textured surface has a microscopic honeycomb of peaks and craters that allow waste particles to collect, and nitrifying bacteria to form.

– The minerals act as a food source for the bacteria, helping the bacteria to develop and multiply at a faster rate, further improving maturation times.

– Calcium alone has proven advantages for developing and maintaining effective bio-films.

– The enzymes that are added also help to make the media sticky so waste particles can adhere to media easier.

– Salt is added during the extrusion process, which is dissolved during the cooling process, leaving a rough surface on which bio-film can easily adhere.

The shape of K+Media optimises the amount of quiet zones within the media where a stable bio-film can develop. Whilst K+Media keeps the integral profile of K1 Media at its core, there is an extra layer of cells and fins around the outside of each piece that enable microscopic organisms such as Rotifers and Vorticella to thrive. This is an additional benefit as competitor media do not have such quiet zones that would allow these higher lifeforms of filter feeders to develop. The bacteria and organisms that form within the bio-film ensure the media delivers optimum levels of biological filtration in the moving bed, which has been proven filtration technology for many years in the fish-keeping hobby.

What is the Benefit of a Moving Bed?

Moving bed media has many advantages over traditional static bed filters including a huge surface area which is always exposed to maximum oxygen and food for the bacteria, self cleaning media as it tumbles, and the world famous protected surface area, enabling bacteria and higher organisms to dwell in their preferred location inside the media, exposed to oxygen and food, but safe from harmful cleaning practices.

Formed in 2010 Queni Koi has grown into one of the largest Koi only retail outlets in the U.K. With over 60,000 gallons of water on-site, spread over 26 ponds our goal is to provide one of the biggest selections of koi anywhere to be seen while catering for every budget. From baby koi, up to show winning Koi.

We pride ourselves in the Koi we have for sale. Visiting Japan multiple times a year, we source Koi from trusted breeders based in Niigata, and from Western Japan. Koi undergo a strict bio-secure quarantine procedure including a minimum of two heat ramp cycles, along with any other necessary treatments to ensure the Koi you buy are fit and healthy.

Our extensive dry goods range is constantly being updated, often bringing new and exciting products to the UK. We are the exclusive UK agent for the FD Food Range and our very popular Drum Filtration range. Stocking brands such as JPD, Kusuri, EA, Colombo, Aquasource and more we only stock products we believe in.

Keeping stock of items important to us, we believe that if we sell a product, we should have it physically in stock. We do our utmost to keep as many products in stock as possible, ensuring timely deliveries to our customers.

QUENI KOI THEN AND NOW

Queni Koi was formed in 2010. Breeding Koi from high-quality Japanese Oyagoi for the UK trade market, during the early day's food was imported to rear fry and culminate Tosai ready for sale into the trade. We soon launched the Queni Koi Food range to compliment the current business. It soon became very popular so we developed and improved our infrastructure in order to provide customers with the service we wanted them to have.

During 2012 the breeding programme closed and a different approach was taken. To source high-quality Japanese Koi from Japan.

From 2012 to now Queni Koi has developed drastically. Developing relationships with breeders in the North of Japan and the South. We are forever increasing the quality and range of Japanese Koi we have for sale. Typically we have Koi ranging from £10.00 to over £10,000.00, we focus on catering for all hobbyists.

Travelling to Japan two to three times a year, we strictly only ever import Japanese Koi. Every Koi is hand-selected in Japan by us. All Koi undergo our strict quarantine procedure. We take this very seriously and quarantine for a minimum of 6 weeks to ensure our customers receive disease-free, healthy Koi. During this period, routine scrapes are taken, they undergo heat ramping, and necessary treatments are used.

Year on year we are developing and pushing Queni Koi to new heights. Our next step was to develop our product range other than Food, Treatments and Koi.

Late 2015 we signed a deal to become the sole agent for a range of Drum filters from a manufacturer in Holland. In partnership, to date (2022) there are over 400 units in operation in the U.K. and Ireland alone. Including Europe, there are nearly 2000 units in operation. Proving very popular, productivity and demand increased. We are proud to offer this filtration range to our customers and work closely with our partner in Holland, always looking at ways to develop products and increase the range.

Pushing Queni Koi forward to another level again we re-located to the nearby village of Wanlip. Opening a brand new facility in May 2017 we increased our water space from 12,000 gallons to 60,000 gallons spread across two sites. All of the new ponds run on our own filtration range consisting of Drums, Bio Chambers, Showers and Combi Drums. Once again we increased the numbers of Koi and inevitably increased our storage for stock.

In 2019 we built an additional polytunnel. This is used primarily for quarantining new Koi. This adds an extra 14,000 gallons of water space to our existing setup.

We already have exciting plans for 2022 so keep tuned!

Here at Queni Koi we pride ourselves on our prompt delivery service to get the products you need to you as soon as possible. We try to subsidise postage and packaging costs to keep prices to a minimum for our customers.

We use APC for all Koi deliveries and standard dry goods deliveries, due to them being one of only a few companies to be licensed to deliver live Fish. As they were the first to offer this service in the UK, they have many years of experience within the field.
