Pressburg: Druck von Heinrich Sieber's Erden, 1862. Two volumes bound in one.
Octavo, ¼ cloth over marbled card boards, [168 + 144 pages]. Hebrew text. First
volume illustrated with several diagrams representing the solar system
(movement of Earth and Sun). Spine label worn as are extremities, moderate wear
to boards, text block partially cracked at center of book. Mostly very good.
Two works by Margoliot-Jaffe
(1802-1864), a Hungarian rabbi. Both works are rare, the first pertaining to
the Jewish calendar, the second being a commentary on the Old Testament.
Margoliot-Jaffe studied under Moses Sofer. He reveals a deep knowledge of
astronomy and mathematics in his first work, Hazan la-Mo’ed, when he examines the Hilkhot Kiddush ha-Hodesh of Maimondes’ Mishneh Torah.
Uncommon. We could locate no other
examples of this work in the marketplace nor in institutional holdings.
