PATOUNIS soaps are one of the longest-established names in the Mediterranean area, a NATRUE and UNESCO-recognised family business set up by the great great great great grandfather of the current owner, Mr Apostolos Patounis, in 1850. These wonderfully pure olive oil soaps are hand-cut and hand-stamped with traditional implements in the original premises in Corfu Town and are left to 'cure' for four months in open air wooden racks before packaging as you see in photo 3 above. Any tourist, visitor or local customer will be met at the door not only with a friendly smile but an astonishing aroma* of natural olive oil that pervades this factory which has become part of the museum must-go-to list on Corfu. Vegan Society-Trademarked, not tested on animals, "it has been tested on humans for five generations" says Mr Patounis, hypoallergenic, vegetarian, no GM content, no laurel oil either (which is a banned cosmetic ingredient in Europe), no additives whatsoever, traceable olive oil from local families (BoffinBeads' family in the past for instance), this biodegradable soap is ideal for babies, face, allergy sufferers/sensitives, geriatrics and the 'green' soap in particular can be used as an alternative to harsh shampoos, it can even be used to clean your hair although the 'mild' soap has limited lathering abilities. The 'green' type of soap lathers more easily and is a pleasure to use. Nice and pure for cleaning dentures with and using as a shaving soap. Patounis soaps have gone through the rigours of Trading Standards inspection and the bars will come to you wrapped in their original wrappings with batch number clearly stated on outer biodegradable natural manilla paper packaging. Unbeatable purity with only: Greek virgin olive oil, sea salt and water! These are air-dried naturally on wooden racks during their curing process lasting up to four months and then wrapped in the soap workshop with eco-friendly manilla wrappings. 100% biodegradable. The lather of the 'green' soap in particular feels very 'creamy' with its natural olive aroma, leaves skin totally clean. Rectangular-shaped soaps are hand-cut and hand-stamped so variation in shape and weight may be expected, 127 grams up to 130 grams for 'green' bars and a little lighter for the 'mild' bars. All Patounis soap products have beautiful simple manilla paper wrappings and Batch No. clearly stated on the white paper label - product design a great credit to the Patounis Soap Factory.
Visitors to the Corfu soap works are welcome to attend a tour of the workshop and be shown how this lovely soap is prepared, a 'must' for all soap enthusiasts! Talks start at midday Monday to Friday during the main tourist season. February 2024: Please check their website or ring prior to visiting.
