Hemp beats cotton in sustainability by a long shot. Half of the fertilizers in the United States are used for growing cotton. To produce equal amounts of textile fiber, hemp uses 50 percent less water than cotton and grows rampantly on half as less land than cotton requires and without stripping the land of nutrients.
