To get rid of dandruff once and for all, you need to eliminate its cause. There are different types of dandruff, but most often it is caused by Pityrosporum ovale, also known as Malassezia furfur, a species of fungus that naturally occurs on the skin surface and is associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis. Selenium disulphide effectively inhibits its growth and eliminates the fungus. This ingredient has a 3-in-1 effect: cytostatic, fungicidal and keratolytic.

Cytostatic effect. Cytostasis is the inhibition of cell growth. As a cytostatic agent, selenium disulphide regulates epidermal cell renewal and normalises sebum secretion in the scalp.

Fungicidal effect. Selenium disulphide inhibits the growth of dandruff-causing fungi and relieves symptoms associated with dandruff such as itchy and flaky scalp.

Keratolytic effect. Keratolytic agents soften keratin (a major component of the skin) and cause the outer layer of the skin to loosen and shed. In other word, selenium disulphide helps to get rid of dead epidermal cells and prevents the recurrence of dandruff.
