Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a unique 1940's era Turner crystal microphone made into a custom LED lamp. Probably the most recognized designs from Turner ever. A classic bullet mic a deco accent. Classic, clean lines give this mic the attention it deserves. This 1st generation 22X made it's debut in the early 1940's and had a run of roughly 15 to 20 years until it was eventually discontinued for the more modern style hand held mics that were becoming far more practical. A cast zinc body with a glossy satin chrome finish.

The 22 series came as a crystal and dynamic version. Both mics were identical in looks but utilized different elements.

Pic # 2 is from an original Turner advertisement showing the mic and it's basic characteristics.

I should start by letting you know that this mic lamp is made by a gentleman in Canada named Gord D Birtch who is a Jack of all Trades. An artist and all around good guy with an eye for these older mics. I have several of his mic lamps at my residence and have been collecting them for almost a year. I send him the microphones and he turns them into this finished product.

All of the mics are gutted, cleaned and professionally wired with high quality, efficient American L.E.D lights. Gord will often install metal mesh screen in his mics. Some do not have them but it really comes down to how the mic is designed and how we want the light to be thrown. I think this 22X looks better with the screens so the original 22X front screen was kept as is.

This 22X casts an amazing ambiance once activated as you can see in the pictures provided. It has a spot light vibe.   This will make an excellent accent piece anywhere in the home, studio or office and this mic lamp will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand. I do have several vintage stands available in my Ebay store however.

If you'd like to contact Gord directly please just let me know and I'll provide you one of his links here on Ebay. You can get a better deal if you buy directly from him as I'm just trying to get his name and recognition out there. His work is top notch. Again, I have several of his pieces in my residence and everybody who comes over absolutely loves them.

The 22X itself is in very nice physical condition. The mic is free of any dents or fractures and the satin chrome finish has an absolute minimum of wear. Zero pitting or scratches. The joint mechanism on this mic has lots of tension and works perfectly allowing you to tilt the head backwards putting light wherever you need it. A cable connector is attached to the mic as it would be naturally completing the effect of the mic.

The cable itself is a high quality cloth covered item and has an older vintage feel to it. It's appx 9 feet in length and has an on / off switch as you can see in pic # 10. Simply plug this in and your good to go. I believe these LED's are rated at 50,000 hours.

This in actual Turner 22X mic. Not a replica. I can't talk these lamps up enough. More like sculptures and I was told Gord is going to be numbering these like paintings to indicate his particular work. He'll be making several more of these lamps in many makes and models so this is going to be more than just a lamp but an investment. Regardless, one of the coolest lamps you could own and perfect for that mid century vibe and an excellent gift for just about anybody.

This 22X is not as powerful as some of the mic lamps I have listed but the lighting is strong enough to read a book by once focused in the direction needed.
