The Morane-Saulnier MS 406 is the first modern fighter aircraft of the
1930's to go into service in the french Air Force units,
and probably one of the most famous combat aircraft of the Second French
World War.
It is the first French fighter over 400 km per h., and one of only two
kinds of French aircraft built more than 1000 planes, with the Potez 63.
Philippe Charbonneaux (1917-1998) was a French product designer,
best-known for car and truck design, but also known for other products
such as television sets.
Many of his works are now exhibits in places such as Centre Georges
Pompidou in Paris, or Museum of Modern Art in New York.
He specialised in car design studies, so he has left many
inventive prototypes.
He designed for Renault, Ford, Delahaye, Berliet, Bugatti, and others
(for instance, Wimille 2nd and 3d prototypes were his creation).
He was also a brilliant automotive artist, equal only to Georges Hamel
(Geo Ham).
After WWII he has drawn hundreds of illustrations for various magazines
and booklets, most notably Delahaye.
Famous pieces include the Téléavia Panoramic III TV set; the Renault 8
in 1962; the Renault 16 in 1965, which was a top-of-the-line family
luxury car and Europe's Car of the Year for 1965;
and the Renault 21 1986.
You can read an excellent contribution on his career here (with several
posters): http://leroux.andre.free.fr/charbonneau.htm
Many automobile and aeronautical references of Philippe
Charbonneaux are available on the results of the famous auction
selling houses.
Estimated and sold between 800 to more than 1200 Euros by Artcurial in
