ROARING CENTURY.

1846-1946.

To mark the first hundred years in the life of a famous newspaper. The Daily News was founded by Charles Dickens on January 21st, 1846. The Century was reached with the 31,099th issue of the News Chronicle on January 21st, 1946.

This is a privately-issued Edition of a book to be published by Hamish Hamilton Ltd, London.

This Edition is Limited to 500 copies, this being number 221.

The more modest purpose of the book is to mark the centenary of the newspaper which Charles Dickens founded, by contrasting some aspects of his world of 1846 with our world of 1946. The theme is simply Then and Now.

Also Contains 16 illustrated plates.

The book measures 14.5cm x 22cm.

There are some signs of age, use and wear. The cover has significant surface wear, fading and discolouration, the edges are particularly worn. The front marbled end papers have frayed along the hinge, but remains firmly attached, see photos. There is some occasional mild age/use related page discolouration/creasing dotted throughout, brown spotting/foxing etc. Overall the contents binding appears good, firm and complete. All illustrated plates present. There are no previous owner inscriptions. Overall remains in acceptable reading condition, a scarce limited edition, with as described clear signs of age, use and wear.
