CAMPINGMOON XD-1 Turbo - Extreme Cold Weather Gas Stove
We sell a lot of lightweight gas camping stoves, and indeed we have quite a variety to suit various pockets and various requirements, and the XD-1 Turbo is yet another gas stove designed to meet a particular and specific need.
As far as lightweight backpacking gas stoves go, the XD-1 Turbo is right at the top of the pile when it comes to looks... the XD-1 is a thing of beauty. I know, perhaps we shouldn't be getting this excited about a gas stove, but it is a stunning little stove.

Made primarily of brushed stainless steel, the manufacturing quality of this stove is clearly evident, however this quality does come at a cost, so the stove will not immediately suit everyone. And indeed for general camping and backpacking use there are much lighter, much less costly stoves available that will do the job equally well. In fact for general backpacking and camping use, the XD-1 Turbo is overkill in every sense of the word.
You see, the XD-1 Turbo is designed specifically for use at high altitudes and in extremely cold weather conditions, where it may be so cold that the liquid gas has trouble vaporising. It is in these extreme conditions that the XD-1 Turbo comes into its own - this is where the XD-1 Turbo excels and is designed to outperform other gas stoves.
The XD-1 Turbo comes with stand that allows you to invert the gas canister when faced with extremes of cold weather, so gravity allows the liquid gas to flow from the canister without relying on it vaporising from the top of the canister. With the burner lit the sizeable pre-heater pipe then pre-heats the liquid gas in order to vaporise the liquid gas more efficiently at the burner. Once running the XD-1 Turbo then performs efficiently. In extremely cold conditions, any stove without a pre-heater pipe will struggle to work effectively... if at all.
Another feature of the XD-1 Turbo is the unique design of the burner itself. The design forces the gas centrally rather than upward, which will create a centralised upward flame - a mini cyclone effect, better focussing the heat.
The stove legs open out and lock into place to provide a nice stable 3 leg base, and the pot supports fold out to extend the support area. Everything folds back nicely in order to reduce the size for carrying. Once folded the stove will fit nicely into its dedicated carry case.
Note: This stove does not feature a piezo ignition, but it does come with an emergency fire starter/lighter.
A handy little fire starter for emergencies. Simply run the long side of the metal blade firmly down the ferrocerium rod to produce a mass of sparks. A useful little tool to have with you.
If the pre-heater pipe feature of this stove is something that has drawn you to it, but the cost is a little off-putting, then check out our BRS-11 'Cyclone' gas stove. It might not be as completely well suited to the extreme conditions that the XD-1 Turbo is designed to cope with, but the BRS-11 is a good mid-way option that is also a lovely stove, well worth taking a look at - just visit our eBay shop.
