Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a unique and very rare 1940's era American C7H model crystal microphone made in Los Angeles, California. This particular model is probably the rarest American model made and is certainly one of the hardest mics to find from that era.

This mic is no longer working for the purpose for which it was created. The mic was in non-working order when it arrived to me so I took liberties to convert this very unique microphone into a light in which to use to your discretion.

Pic # 2 shows this model in an old 1940's era American catalog. This seems to be the first generation C7H as it has a different front grill than the other example I'm currently selling on Ebay.

The C7H was a cross between a Turner 33X and Astatic T-3 with it's signature and classic "bullet" style. It's actually quite large as well and has a very industrial, steampunk look. The mic is quite well designed and really flows with a gorgeous deco vibe. There isn't much info on this model. It seems to have been a very short run. Possibly just a few thousand made?

This mic was originally intended for home recording and broadcasting purposes. The crystal element was removed and a single, high quality LED installed in it's place.

I should start by letting you know that this mic lamp is made by a gentleman in Canada named Gord D Birtch who is a Jack of all Trades. An artist and all around good guy with an eye for these older mics. I have several of his lamps at my residence and have been collecting them for almost a year. I send him the microphones and he turns them into this finished product.

All of the mics are gutted, cleaned and professionally wired with high quality, efficient American L.E.D lights.   Gord will often install metal mesh screen in his mics. Some do not have them but it really comes down to how the mic is designed and how we want the light to be thrown.

This C7H has the mesh screen as well as the outer original grill but still casts an amazing ambiance once activated as you can see in the pictures provided. This will make an excellent accent piece anywhere in the home, studio or office and this mic lamp will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand. I do have several vintage stands available in my Ebay store however.

The metal body with satin chrome finish shows typical lite wear. It's free of any deep scratches, engravings or dents. The front chrome grill looks quite nice as well. The joint mechanism works perfectly and has adjustable tension as needed via a screwdriver. Lite chrome loss on the lower joint mechanism. I would give this C7H a solid 7 on a scale of 1 - 10.

A cable connector is attached to the bottom of the mic as if there was a regular cable attached to complete the effect.

The cable itself is a high quality cloth covered item and has an older vintage feel to it. It's appx 9 feet in length and has an on / off switch as you can see in pic # 8. Simply plug this in and your good to go. I believe these LED's are rated at 50,000 hours.

This is an actual C7H mic. Not a replica. I can't talk these lamps up enough. More like sculptures and one of the coolest lamps you could own and perfect for that mid century vibe and an excellent gift for just about anybody.

These are certainly strong enough to read a book next too. Makes a great night lite as well as it's not as intense as some of the other lamps I am selling here on Ebay.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
