Vintage 1957 “Chess” Japan Ceramic Teapot. It has the marking of “Chess 1957” on the bottom of teapot. This teapot measures ~ 8” across “spout to handle” and it measures ~6” tall from teapot lid to base. It is a very unique and rare piece. I have found only a couple of of the “Chess” teapots but none with the chicken motif. This antique piece which is around 63 years old, is in good condition. The texture of the piece is unique, it has a layered wood grain look. It has maintained its color and the chicken’s colors are vibrant. I carefully look over every piece that I list so that I can accurately describe the condition of what you will be receiving. In doing this, I noticed 2 small issues, one is that around the chicken’s beak there are 2 small dots that look to be missing glaze. This can occur if a bubble develops during firing and then later the glaze separates from the piece due to the tiny bubble. The other is a hairline crack in one place on the lid. These rarely require repair and there are no signs of repair. (Please see last two photos) Please view ALL photos as they are part of the description. Thank you for looking.
