Often favoured by outdoor enthusiasts that prefer the more traditional alcohol/spirit fuel stoves as opposed to gas or solid fuel.

If you are in no hurry and prefer the gentle flame of an alcohol stove over the roar of a gas stove, then these little stoves with their lazy flame and simplicity may be the answer. Compared to gas, these little stoves will take longer to boil your water for a hot drink, but if time is not an issue, then they have their merits. For one thing you are never left with hard to dispose of empty gas cylinders, and unlike gas cylinders whereby you maybe uncertain of just how much gas you have left (and therefore may have to carry a bulky spare cylinder), this tends not to be an issue when you carry a liquid fuel in a bottle that you can prefill fully before your venture into the outdoors.

These stoves will burn methylated spirits or dedicated camping stove denatured alcohols. Methylated spirit is readily available but is slightly less calorific than other types of camping stove alcohols, but it does tend to last a lot longer. Alcohols that are designed specifically for camping stoves may burn a little cleaner and are often odourless, but they burn faster and may cost considerably more than methylated spirit.

This stove comes with a leak-proof travelling lid, but unlike some similar stoves that are available, this stove comes complete with its dedicated cooking stand and also features a dousing lid for safely extinguishing the stove after use. The dousing lid can also be used to adjust the flame output, hence can act as a simmer control. Furthermore, and again unlike some other stoves, the dousing lid itself features a small handle which allows you to extinguish the flames without burning your fingers.

Whist not as efficient or as easy to control as gas stoves, these alcohol stoves are pretty bombproof. With no moving parts and so nothing to go wrong, these little stoves are often favoured by traditionalists that demand the ultimate in simplicity and reliability.

Alcohol stoves do tend to have lazier flames than such as a gas stove, so the addition of some form of protection from the wind can make a vast difference in cooking/boiling times. With this in mind, the alcohol stove in this listing also comes with an additional full size, 9-plate folding aluminium windshield which offers much greater protection to the stove, particularly on windy days. The 9-plate aluminium folding windshield is 130mm high, and each plate is 70 mm wide and weighs 125g (130g in pouch). Small rods on each end plate allow it to be pinned into the ground. It comes in its own pouch.
