The ''Wolf's Lair Abyss'' EP by MAYHEM from Oslo was the long awaited fitting answer to the spectacular ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'' debut album. Probably no other Black Metal band made headlines in the 90s like the Norwegian initiators MAYHEM. A good but largely unspectacular Black Metal band became a myth. In 1997, however, the quartet Hellhammer, Necrobutcher, Blasphemer and Maniac once again impressively demonstrated that their music was one of the exceptional phenomena of Black Metal in the 90s. According to MAYHEM's philosophy, Black Metal is a thoroughly ugly, bitter and dirty thing. Only a few bands are so brutal and mean as a bastard. And Maniac turns out to be one of the craziest shouters on the scene. Disgusting, evil, full of tearing tension, mostly at high speed with pithy, simple riffs and fat production, the northerners hunt through the five songs of ''Wolf's Lair Abyss''. Here on the limited 2021 re-issue in clear vinyl, as stand alone release, there are also 2 bonus tracks on top and an extensive LP-sized 8-page booklet.
