Stipple engraving with plate and hand colouring (in the style of Redoute) on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 12.5 x 20.5 cm (4.92 x 8.07 inch). Image size: 8.5 x 16 cm. (3.35 x 6.3 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. Some light soiling. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From: 'Flore Medicinale ...', by F.P. Chaumenton, illustratd by Mme. Ernestine Panckoucke and P.J.F. Turpin, 1st. Ed published by C.L.F. Panckoucke in 1814 in Paris. Author: Francois Pierre Chaumeton (1775-1819) was assisted in this work by J. Chambaret and J. Poiret. Pierre-Jean-Francois Turpin (1775-1840) is considered by many as the greatest French botanical painter of his time. His drawings of botanical details have rarely been surpassed. He co-operated and was inspired by the botanical painter Poiteau (1776-1854). Turpin and Panckoucke were was students of the famous Redoute.
