Born in 1863 in Philadelphia, Joseph grew up attending public schools. 

In 1882, he began the study of medicine with Dr. A. R. Thomas, Dean and Professor 

of Anatomy in the Hahnemann College of Philadelphia. 

In 1884, Joseph entered college... finally graduating with honors in 1887

Exploits As a Doctor: 

Served on Editorial Staff of "The Medical Institute" 

Assistant Surgeon to Dr. Wm. B. Van Lennep

Member of the Hahnemann Medical Alumni Association, The County Medical Society, 

The Pennsylvania State Society, The American Institute of Homeopathy, 

American Health Resort Association! 

In 1889, he moved to San Diego, California. 

There he became the President of the California State Society! 

As well as a member of the San Diego Board of Health! 

"He devotes especial attention to ophthalmology, otology, rhinology, and laryngology, 

and in these branches is considered authority in that section of the country"
