Alexandre: Fan maker  to the Courts of Europe

By Hélène Alexander

This lavishly illustrated publication focuses upon the oeuvre of celebrated fan maker, Félix Alexandre (b.1823).  Alexandre was active in an age when the art of fan-making reached a glorious apogee, and this publication supports an exhibition that opened in 2011 at The Fan Museum, London.

Alexandre: Fan-Maker to the Courts of Europe, brought together, for the first time, an array of exquisite fans from maison Alexandre, including loans from Royal Collections and some of Europe’s most prestigious collectors.

Drawing on extensive archival research, the publication offers unparalleled insights into the art and craft of a particularly enigmatic fan maker: undoubtedly one of the major forces in 19th century French fan design and production.
