- Characteristics - Compact & slow growing Japanese Maple, Displays attractive bright pink to red foliage with lobed leaves during spring. Foliage is followed by green leaves during summer before displaying vibrant fiery bursts of orange and red during the autumn months.
- Period of Interest - Deciduous foliage displays most colour during spring and autumn, before leaves drop for winter.
- Ultimate Height & Spread - This plant will grow to roughly 3m tall and spread to around 3m wide
- Plant Advice - Plant prefers moist but well drained soil, best positioned in partial shade but is tolerant of full sun. Can be planted as a specimen or with other varieties
Beni-Maiko is an extremely popular deciduous garden acer, renowned for it's bright foliage throughout spring and autumn. Starting as it means to go on, this variety initally develops brightly coloured pinkish-red lobed leaves during spring, before being joined by a touch of green during the summer. As we move into autumn, the brightness of the foliage dims ever so slightly, producing vibrant bursts of orange and red colours befitting of the time of year.
This japanese maple can be planted in most types of soil, so long as it is moist but well-drained, it prefers a slightly shaded position in the garden but due to it's hardy nature it can tolerate full sun. Ideal as a specimen tree for a small space, beni-maiko can go it alone, or provide a fantastic bit of colour among a group of different varieties in the garden.
