The other major source of data on flatware patterns gives 1936 as the opening date. The design is of a simple feathered handle. I have been told that this pattern was for many years a premium with King Edward cigars. The iced tea spoon is designed for tall glasses. It is used to agitate the liquid to keep sugar and other elements in suspension. Iced tea spoons came to be at about the time that sanitary ice became available, in the late 1890's. Before that most ice had been cut out of ponds and rivers, and was frequently filled with bugs and leaves, so it could not be directly in contact with food. And delivery ice was packed in sawdust, also not really suitable for beverages. So this kind of spoon is a product of the refrigerator/freezer era. The 6 iced tea spoons offered here measure about 7 1/2". These are not pieces of new silver. They show the patina of as much as 85 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The pattern is crisp and clear. These iced tea spoons come in a flannel wrapper which helps prevent tarnish. I polish all silver before listing on eBay. Please email with any questions before bidding.
