 DESCRIPTION:
Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely gorgeous and quite well-preserved early 20th century American folk art New England primitive antique chalk green painted, hand woven splint black ash handled wooden picnic basket, complete with two left and right hinged lid top covers. The paint is first generation paint and the basket boasts all original surfaces, with evidence of previous handling after the basket was painted in this beautiful chalk green, infused with titanium white, giving the color a pastel quality. The basket's nearly entirely intact, with only one bottom corner slightly disturbed and with a broken ash slat where the thin board turns at the corner. The splint black ash pieces were individually nailed into place with small headed brad nail fasteners. The basket was most likely painted sometime after it was initially constructed. It would have originally had a lightly lacquered clear finish over the splint black ash. The green paint was applied later, most likely in the late 1920's to late 1930's. Great overall vintage basket condition and simply terrific color. Really nice.

CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
