Hardy Girodon and Pralon Special Eyed Fly Box , Larger 15 Compartment Model.
First introduced by Hardy in circa 1894 with the dry fly fisherman in mind - 15 no individual compartments , each with a hinged lid ( note that the hinge to the smaller "corner" compartment is loose , but is there and complete)
Later boxes ( 1897 onwards ? ) had numbered lids and a wipeable ivorine insert for the lid to note fly patterns in the respective compartments
This box has what appears to be a later felt lining to the lid - allows the flies to be stored after use
Approx 6 x 3 1/2 " , end compartment for tweezers
Note that each compartment lid has pencil notation of flies retained - Pheasant tail , Winged Greenwell , Red Quill etc etc
Box retains nice original cream painted interior , externally , nice patina and looks to have been repainted previously ( but well aged )
Early Hardy lozenge label to box lid with single brass rivet fixing
A lovely lot for the collector and of course , could readily be used again ........
