White
truffle, Italian, Piedmontese / Tuber magnatum - marsupial genus of
fungi with underground tuberous fleshy fruit bodies of order Pezizales
considered valuable delicacies. Grow in the forests as saprophytes or
form mycorrhiza with tree roots. Some fruiting bodies in the context of
the drawing resemble marble.
Fruiting
bodies (apothecia a modified) underground, in the form of irregular
tuber size is usually 2-12 cm and weighing 30-300 grams. Occasionally
there are instances of 1 kg or more. The surface is rough, covered with a
thin velvety skin, is not separated from the pulp, light ocher or
brownish color.
The
flesh is dense, from white to yellow-gray, sometimes with a reddish
tinge, with a white and creamy brown marble pattern. Taste pleasant,
spicy smell, reminiscent of cheese with garlic.
Form
mycorrhiza with oak, willow and poplar, and found under the lime trees.
Grows in deciduous forests with loose calcareous soil at different
depths.
